History

An award-winning electrical & instumentation contracting company
serving Tennessee,South, East, & Western United States

imgTennessee Electric Company was founded in 1947 as a three man, locally owned residential and commercial electrical company serving the area of Kingsport, TN.

In 1957, John F. Miller purchased the company and in 1961 incorporated Tennessee Electric Company in the state of Tennessee.

During the early days, Tennessee Electric experienced growth and eventually grew into a large operation with numerous projects in the coalfields of Southwest Virginia and Southeastern Kentucky.

In August of 1988, Tennessee Electric entered into a maintenance contract with Eastman Chemical Company using a few small crews. Today, we are Eastman's electrical contractor of choice and perform capital projects construction and maintenance support at the World Scale Chemical Complex.

In 1995, Tennessee Electric received its first Eastman Chemical Supplier Excellence Award and now has a 14-year continuous string of winning this highly competitive award.

The late 1990's marked the movement from a general electrical contractor to a highly specialized/industrial contractor focusing on complex systems and plants.

In 1998 the company received the Tennessee Quality Commitment Award and continues to achieve recognition for its quality work.

In 2007, Greg R. Boehling became the President & CEO and majority owner of Tennessee Electric Company after he and his business partner Robert B. Jordan acquired the company. Boehling brought nearly 25 years of experience in the engineering and construction industry to the company. In addition, he has a thorough understanding of the key role specialty contractors provide to owners and contractors operating in the heavy industrial sector. Jordan, who serves as Board Chairman, brings experience of 40 plus years in the global construction industry.

2008 marked the company’s expansion into the highly specialized wind energy sector. Using the skill sets of our high & medium voltage specialists, Tennessee Electric launched its Wind Energy division that is now experienced in Wind Turbine installations in Texas and several states in the midwest. Our expertise and performance has resulted in being chosen as a major Wind Farm developer/owner’s E & I alliance partner.

Today, Tennessee Electric focuses on a specialized area of the electrical construction and maintenance industry. Complex industrial installations, maintenance, and select commercial needs represent our core focus. Since the acquisition in 2007 the company has added project management capabilities and an expanded geographic footprint.

Tennessee Electric Company operates in the Southern, Eastern, and Midwestern United States and holds unlimited licenses in Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, & Ohio with reciprocal agreements that enable us to quickly gain licenses in other states.
