High Voltage – Sub-station and Switchgear
Sub-station and switchgear projects are difficult and dangerous tasks. Even though Tennessee Electric Company performs sub-station work on a regular basis, we approach each job carefully and with a detailed plan to meet the challenges each project offers. For this reason, we were chosen by Eastman Chemical to provide construction services for the replacement and refurbishment of high voltage substations and switchgear throughout their world scale chemical complex. Our high voltage crews perform cradle to grave services including installation, rigging, checkout, and demolition on these critical projects.

Hydrogen Plant Construction
Tennessee Electric performed electrical construction for the $10 million + hydrogen plant. Our management team worked with the owners team and mechanical contractor to plan and schedule power supply and controls installation at an operating plant.
Tennessee Electric procured cable, conduit fittings, cable tray and associated materials to complete this project in four months.

Wind Energy Projects
Tennessee Electric provided electrical and instrumentation services for construction of multiple 2.1MW wind turbines. The projects are in remote locations and require vertical construction of power transmission and instrumentation and controls cables in these 250 ft tall towers.
Our crews mobilized to these locations and worked in challenging environments where cold and wind hampered progress. We achieved a productivity rate that was 50% better than others contractors and are now John Deere’s contractor of choice for Wind Turbine electrical work.

Shutdowns & Mill Support projects
Tennessee Electric routinely supports projects at Domtar in Kingsport, Tennessee. A recent client critique graded our crews at a 9.7 out of 10 in performing various shutdown related work orders. Domtar designs, manufactures, markets and distributes a wide range of fine paper products.

Back-up Generator
A recent back-up generator installation for Alltel Communications is one example of the complex work that we do with continued success. Under an enormous time consideration, Tennessee Electric electricians moved in, made the switch, and got the system back on line with time to spare.

Domtar Ridgefields Converting
Tennessee Electric was selected by Domtar's Ridgefield Converting to construct E&I systems for their multi-million dollar paper converting line. This work includes installing MCC's, breakers, instrumentation & controls, as well as rigid conduit and cabling to supply power and controls to automated equipment.

Emergency Response
When Ball Corp's primary power supply transformers failed, they called Tennessee Electric to lead the effort to install temporary high-voltage feeders and assist in developing and installing a permanent solution. Tennessee Electric responded by finding the required 500 MCM cable, expediting shipping and installing the temporary system to avert a lengthy shutdown at the plant. We then worked to locate transformers for a permanent solution. Those were installed during a planned outage.
